General Information about the MRCSA
Applications
Volunteer applications will be processed by the MRCSA and data will be entered into the Pima County Health Department Emergency Services database. All information is kept secure and confidential.
Position Assignments
Upon joining the MRCSA, volunteers will be assigned to a Task Force commensurate with their background education and experience.
Training
MRCSA Volunteers will receive training which will include:
- General MRCSA orientation
- National Incident Management System (NIMS), IS700
- CPR/First Aid
- IS 100, IS 200, ICS/EOC Interface and Mass Casualty Training
- Task Force specific curriculum
- Assisting the Neighborhood Points of Distribution (specified locations to supporting mass vaccination strategy)
- Assisting in the Distribution of the Strategic National Stockpile
- Working in triage areas, overflow treatment areas and field hospitals
Maintaining Readiness
Regular training and exercises are essential elements for ensuring readiness. Being ready to respond in an emergency does not just happen--readiness requires planning, training and exercises. The MRCSA will have regular meetings and participate in exercises to ensure maximum emergency preparedness.
Funding
The MRCSA is a 501(c)(3) organization. Volunteer time is uncompensated. MRCSA activities are supported through community fund raising and grants. However, the Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and the Pima County Health Department are responsible for supplies and other support during a disaster which may include:
- Education and training
- Protective equipment and clothing
- Supplies (gloves, syringes, splints, etc.)
- Food and shelter
- Communication equipment
Identification
The Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will ensure that carefully controlled photo identification badges are prepared and issued to each MRCSA volunteer.
Volunteer Safety
All volunteers will receive safety training that is appropriate to their function in the MRCSA unit. It is recommended that all volunteers have current immunizations including tetanus, influenza, and hepatitis B.
Insurance/Liability
A comprehensive liability insurance policy covers registered volunteers while working under the supervision and direction of the Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. MRCSA volunteers are insured against personal or bodily injury or property damage. See the Insurance/Liability section for more information.
